A long-form narrative overview.
Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a modern world where humanity unknowingly creates its own monsters. Every negative emotion -fear, anger, regret, hatred — leaks into the environment and condenses into supernatural entities known as Curses. Invisible to ordinary people, these beings lurk in schools, hospitals, subways, and abandoned buildings, feeding on human suffering.
To combat this unseen threat exists a secret society of Jujutsu Sorcerers, individuals trained to manipulate cursed energy and exorcise curses. Their work is thankless and hidden, and their deaths are rarely acknowledged. In this world, protecting humanity often means being erased by it.
The story begins with Yuji Itadori, a kind-hearted student with extraordinary physical strength. His ordinary life ends when he consumes a cursed object — the finger of the legendary curse Ryomen Sukuna.
Instead of dying, Yuji becomes Sukuna’s vessel, forced to coexist with a being responsible for countless massacres. Jujutsu society immediately sentences Yuji to death, allowing him to live only until all of Sukuna’s fingers are destroyed. From that moment, Yuji lives with the knowledge that his own execution is inevitable.
Jujutsu society is rigid, political, and deeply flawed. Sorcerers are treated as tools rather than people, sent into lethal situations regardless of age or readiness. Survival depends not on justice, but on strength and obedience.
Yuji’s teammates, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki, represent different ways of coping with this cruelty. Megumi accepts the world’s harshness as reality, while Nobara fiercely defends her individuality and sense of self.
Standing above all sorcerers is Gojo Satoru, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer alive. His limitless power protects humanity from extinction, but also destabilizes the balance of the jujutsu world.
Gojo openly challenges the conservative elders who govern jujutsu society. His goal is not domination, but reform — to raise a new generation strong enough to survive without becoming disposable sacrifices.
As the story progresses, the line between human and curse blurs. Antagonists like Suguru Geto argue that humanity itself is the source of suffering, and that curses exist only because humans deserve them.
Jujutsu Kaisen refuses to divide the world into heroes and villains. Every character carries trauma, belief, and contradiction. Violence is not glorified -it is shown as a consequence of unresolved hatred.
At its emotional core, Jujutsu Kaisen asks a devastating question: How should one live, knowing death is unavoidable? Yuji’s answer is simple yet fragile — to ensure that people are allowed a proper death, one that acknowledges their existence and dignity.
It is this belief that drives him forward, even as the world around him grows darker and more unforgiving.
